Incheon Airport to Seoul: AREX vs Bus vs Taxi (2026)
Quick Answer: Take the AREX Express if you have big bags and land before 10 pm. Take the All-Stop train, tapping a T-money card, if you land late or travel light. After midnight, use the N6701 night bus or a taxi.

You just cleared immigration at Incheon. Now you need to get to Seoul, about 50 km away, and the signs point everywhere at once. Express train? Subway? Bus? Taxi?
I live in Seoul, and I take the airport train a lot. The right choice mostly depends on two things: how much luggage you have and what time you land. Here's how to pick.
Incheon Airport to Seoul: The Short Version
| Option | Time | Cost (adult) | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| AREX Express | 43 min (T1) / 51 min (T2) to Seoul Station | ₩13,000 at the station; some online partners are cheaper | Lots of luggage, a fixed schedule, hotels near Seoul Station |
| AREX All-Stop | About 53-66 min | About ₩4,450-5,050 | Late arrivals, light bags, Hongdae or Gongdeok |
| Airport bus (6701 and others) | 70-90 min, up to 2 hours at rush hour | About ₩18,000 | Hotels along the bus route, a no-transfer ride |
| Taxi | 60-90 min | Roughly ₩60,000-80,000 plus tolls, more at night | Groups of three or more, very late arrivals |
Prices are approximate and come from several travel guides. Check the day you travel.
AREX Express vs. All-Stop: What It Feels Like
Both trains run on the same line, but they feel very different.
AREX Express
This is the non-stop train between the airport and Seoul Station. Every seat is reserved, so you will sit. There's a luggage rack near the doors, and the ride is smooth and on time.
It also drops you at Seoul Station, which is an easy starting point for Myeongdong, Jongno, and Gwanghwamun.
The downsides are real, though. Trains leave only every 30-55 minutes, so bad timing can mean a long wait on the platform. And you can't tap a T-money card here. You need a separate ticket.
AREX All-Stop
This is basically a subway line with about a dozen stops, including Gimpo Airport, Digital Media City, Hongdae, and Gongdeok. Trains come every 7-10 minutes, so you rarely wait. It's far cheaper, and a T-money card works at the gate.
The catch is comfort. During rush hour and on weekends, you may stand with locals and hold your suitcase the whole way. The seats are long benches, so there's no good spot for a big bag.
Pro-Tip: If you're heading to Hongdae or anywhere on Line 2, 5, or 9, the All-Stop train can save you a transfer. If you're going to Myeongdong, Jongno, or Gwanghwamun, the Express to Seoul Station is usually faster overall.
Which Train Should You Take?
| Your situation | Take this |
|---|---|
| Two large suitcases or more | Express |
| Landing before about 9:30 pm | Express |
| Landing after about 10 pm | All-Stop (the Express may already be gone; last one to Seoul Station leaves T1 at 11:38 pm) |
| One carry-on, staying near Hongdae or Gongdeok | All-Stop |
| You don't want to plan around a timetable | All-Stop |
Buying the Right Ticket
This is where most visitors get tripped up.
For the Express: You can buy a ticket at the Express customer service center on the B1 level of the airport's transport center, or book online before you fly. AREX lists the adult fare as ₩13,000 and says the Express isn't covered by T-money. Online is cheaper. I paid ₩11,500 for the AREX Express ticket on Klook in January 2026, against ₩13,000 at the station. Prices can change.

Here's how the Klook ticket works. After you land, open the Klook app, activate the voucher, and pick your departure time. The app then shows a QR code with your car and seat number. Travelers say they could skip the kiosk and scan the code at the gate.
I've done this myself at Terminal 1. I activated the Klook voucher on the day I traveled and picked my departure time after checking the AREX website for the timetable. I didn't need a kiosk or a staff member. I went straight down to the platform level, and it was easy to find. The Wi-Fi was strong too. My ticket showed the train, car, and seat number, and the ride took 43 minutes.

Pro-Tip: Don't activate the voucher until you're through immigration and have your bags. The QR code only scans within about 30 minutes before your chosen departure, and the booking can't be changed or refunded once made. Check the current terms in the Klook app before you buy.
For the All-Stop: Tap a T-money card at the blue gate. If you don't have one yet, you can get a T-money card through Klook or buy one at a convenience store in the airport. The same card works on Seoul's subway and buses.

Warning: Don't tap T-money at the orange Express gate. It won't work. The Express and All-Stop use different gates, so check the color before you walk through.

Landing Late? Read This Before You Go
This is the mistake I see most often. The last AREX Express leaves Terminal 1 at 10:48 pm and Terminal 2 at 10:40 pm, according to the AREX timetable. If your flight lands late and you reach the platform after that, the Express is gone for the night.
The All-Stop train runs later. From Terminal 1, the last train to Seoul Station leaves at 11:38 pm. A 11:56 pm train follows, but it only goes as far as Digital Media City. Terminal 2's last Seoul Station train leaves around 11:32 pm. So if you land at night, go straight to the All-Stop gate with a T-money card. Don't waste time queuing for an Express ticket.
Pro-Tip: Count the time it takes to clear immigration and collect bags. If your flight lands at 10:00 pm, you probably won't reach the platform until after 10:45.
If you miss the last All-Stop train, the subway option is over. Your backups are the N6701 night bus, a taxi, or a hotel near the airport.
Airport Bus: Good for Some Hotels, Slow for Others
The airport limousine buses, including the popular 6701, cost about ₩18,000 and stop at major hotels and districts such as Mapo, Gongdeok, Gwanghwamun, City Hall, and Myeongdong. If your hotel is on a route, you can skip the transfers completely.

The 6701 airport bus at Terminal 1.
- Payment: Tap T-money, pay with a foreign credit card on board, or buy a ticket at a booth.
- Time: 70-90 minutes, and up to 2 hours at rush hour (7-9 am and 6-8 pm).
- Daytime hours: About 5:15 am to 10:05 pm from Terminal 2, and 5:35 am to 10:25 pm from Terminal 1.
- Night bus (N6701): Runs after midnight at the same fare, but only about every two hours.
The bus beats the train when your hotel sits right on a stop. It loses when the road is jammed, because a train doesn't care about traffic.
Taxi: Worth It in a Few Cases
A regular taxi to central Seoul often costs roughly ₩60,000-80,000 plus tolls, and a night surcharge of 20-40% applies between 10 pm and 4 am. That adds up fast for one person, but it can make sense for three or four people sharing the fare, or for a late arrival after the trains stop.
You can find taxis outside the arrivals hall. For an app option, see my guide on Kakao T vs. Uber in Korea.
Before You Land: A Quick Checklist
- Check your landing time against the last Express (about 10:40-10:50 pm).
- Decide Express or All-Stop based on your bags and your hotel.
- Book the Express ticket ahead if you want one, and activate it only after you clear immigration.
- Get a T-money card for the All-Stop, the bus, and the subway.
- Get mobile data before you land. A Korea eSIM from Klook lets you open your maps the moment you turn off airplane mode.
- Save your hotel's address in Korean in your phone.
Maps are the next hurdle. Google Maps is weak for walking and transit directions in Korea, so read Does Google Maps Work in Korea? before your trip.
